In 1942 the author C. S. Forester asked Roald Dahl to write down some notes about his time in the RAF so that he could shape them into a story. However his notes were so good that they were printed in the Saturday Evening Post just as they were. This was Roald Dahl’s first published work and it made him realise he had a real talent for writing.

A brand new hardback edition of Roald Dahl's heart-warming tale of Mr Hoppy, his love for Mrs Silver, and just a few special tortoises.

Mr Hoppy wished more than ever that he could become a tortoise. A warm-hearted story of a very shy man who’s in love with a very kind woman, and of the small tortoise that brings them together. Mr Hoppy's wildly ingenious plot to win the love of Mrs Silver will delight and amaze, involving as it does a cryptic riddle and no fewer than a hundred and forty tortoises, large and small.

"I do so wish he would grow a little faster."
